The SPACE/YELLOW SERIES consists of seven Activity workshops containig
a total of 41 individual manipulative activities that reinforce simple
vocabulary and sight words, sentence structure, and short text comprehension.
When used as a whole-class activity, the YELLOW SERIES promotes learning
experiences which lead to social as well as personal discovery. Complete
Reference Guides explain each Activity Workshop in detail -- from basic
utilisation, outcomes and objectives, to suggested variations and extension
activities, to the specific color or shape coding differentiating the manipulative
pieces of each activity packet.
The teacher is encouraged to refer to these guides and model the use
of each Workshop before introducing the YELLOW SERIES as a whole-class activity.
Two 45-minute long Activity Workshop sessions per week will provide students
with seven to eight weeks of exciting and motivating reading experiences
that respect individual learning styles and paces. Five minutes of clean-up
time at the end of each Workshop session will encourage cooperative responsibility
while ensuring that all material is properly put away. Each Activity
Workshop in the SPACE/YELLOW SERIES is identified by a title and symbol.

SCRAMBLED WORDS
In the activity workshop Scrambled Words, the student groups word cards according to card colours. He/she then arranges them to form four meaningful sentences. Then, using his/her knowledge of story structure, the student places the sentences in an order that creates a logical sequence of events.

THE ALPHABET BOX
The activity workshop The Alphabet Box leads the student, as an active learner, to make observations and personal discoveries. The student matches the word cards with their corresponding illustrations and then puts them in alphabetical order. The student then reads the incomplete sentence cards and finds the missing word from his/her alphabetized list of words.

THE MAGIC PENCIL
The activity workshop The Magic Pencil includes 10 different illustrated crossword puzzle boards numbered from 1 to 10. Each board depicts a scene relating to one of the four seasons of the year and stimulates the student to read the clues and write the solutions directly on the puzzle, with the help of the magic pencil. Once the work is completed, everything disappears with the wipe of a paper towel.

WHAT AM I?
With the activity workshop What Am I?, the student will have fun solving the ten riddles in each game. The student places the riddle cards in order from one to ten. He/she reads each riddle and chooses an answer from among the three suggested words.

THE PHOTOGRAPHER
The activity workshop The Photographer involves classifying and sequencing two series of photographs depicting everyday activities in order to reconstruct stories.
The stories which unfold from this logical sequence will determine the choice of short sentences describing the photographs.

WHEN I GROW UP
The activity workshop When I Grow Up focuses on occupations. Concise texts, evocative vocabulary and detailed illustrations all serve to capture the interest of the reader. The student observes the illustrations, reads the texts and matches them to the corresponding illustrations. He/she carefully reads the words on the word cards and associates them with the corresponding occupations.

TRICKY TALES
The activity workshop Tricky Tales includes three types of activities. Each activity allows the teacher to observe how well the students are able to use their knowledge of words in a meaningful context to understand and apply that meaning.
The workshop contains six stories of over 150 words each. The various components of the six games, such as the large, colourful illustrations, the interesting texts and the game pieces, provide students with enjoyable and meaningful reading experiences.

TEACHER'S GUIDE
The Teacher’s Guide describes the material, the learning objectives, the procedures to follow and makes different suggestions for using the material.
STUDENT NOTEBOOK
The child-friendly structure of the Student Notebook enables children
to organize their written responses as they work independently, while allowing
the teacher to easily evaluate individual progress. Compact and attractive,
teh Student Notebook is highly recommended when using the complete ANIMALS/BLUE
SERIES as a whole-class activity.
WORKSHOP WHEEL
The Workshop Wheel is a helpful tool for organizing Activity Workshop
sessions in the classroom. With a spin of the numbered inner wheel, students
divided into groups 1 through 7 can quickly identify the Activity Workshop
symbol corresponding to their team.
